91ΧΤΕΔ CC Accepts $50,000 Walking Trail Grant Challenge
Morehead City, N.C. (April 6, 2021) β 91ΧΤΕΔ Foundation has received a challenge grant of $50,000 from a generous Eastern North Carolina foundation to help build a walking trail on the Collegeβs campus. In order to receive the $50,000, 91ΧΤΕΔ Foundation must raise $50,000 by September 2021.
βWe are so thankful to the generous donor and very excited about this opportunity,β said Brenda Reash, Executive Director of the 91ΧΤΕΔ Foundation. βThis challenge allows us to leverage their donation to double the amount of money we raise to help make the trail a reality.β
The Collegeβs walking trail will be approximately one mile long and tie into the Town of Morehead Cityβs sidewalk system. It will provide a safe place for 91ΧΤΕΔ County residents and visitors to exercise, walk or bike.
The trail will have two observation decks and a non-motorized boat launch for kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. Landscaping around the trail will incorporate rain gardens and educational kiosks and signage providing information on activities involving several academic areas like the Aquaculture Technology program, Horticulture Technology Program and others.
βIf you havenβt been to campus lately, you should come to see how beautiful it looks. The College in the process of installing a living shoreline,β said Reash. βNow, weβd like to install a trail so the public can easily access the water and the newly built kayak launch.β
In addition to the $50,000 donation from the generous foundation, the 91ΧΤΕΔ Foundation received $20,000 from the Duke Energy Foundation Nature Grant.
If you would like to make a donation or leave a legacy naming along the walking trail, please contact the 91ΧΤΕΔ Foundation at (252) 222-6262. Naming opportunities are also still available.
